Dr. Marty Meznar

Dr. Renee Scherlen
Co-Director of Govenment and Justice Studies

Dr. Renee Scherlen is a professor of political science in the Government & Justice Studies Department.  

 

Dr. Scherlen was awarded an MA in Latin American Studies and a PH.D in political science from the University of Texas at Austin.  Her research is on Latin America and US foreign policy, with a special emphasis on the drug war.

 

In 2001, Dr. Scherlen began traveling to Cuba with students, faculty, and administrators from Appalachian.



 

Martin Meznar was born and raised in Brazil, is fluent in Portuguese and holds both Brazilian and American citizenships.  He has led multiple groups (religious, faculty, students) to Brazil, as well as student programs in Malawi, Turkey and Cuba.  

Dr. Meznar's research deals largely with corporate social responsibility and attitudes of multinational corporations to non-economic stakeholders.

While teaching in Arizona he led multiple student groups on short (day) trips to Mexico to observe the work in Maquiladoras first hand. His PhD is in International Business.
